Heritage? What a story! - by Johanna
Whether it is natural, built or intangible, heritage tells the story of our common past in different ways. However, each generation has taken a different look at what surrounds us, leading to destruction and, paradoxically, to preservation. This visit is an opportunity to immerse yourself in the contradictory history of heritage.
Saturday 18 September 2021 at 11:30 am. RDV place du clocher in Saint-Emilion.
Visit only in French. Duration about 1h30. For all ages, suitable for families.
24 pax max/visit. Reservation by e-mail here >

Apprentice Tour
Saint-Emilion is the ideal playground to learn about the different trades of the Middle Ages. Follow Nathalie or Julia and get into the shoes of a master quarryman, a church painter and decorator, or a copyist monk.
In an interactive way, with the manipulation of objects, tools and the mixing of pigments, the whole family will be able to better understand the techniques and know-how of the artists and craftsmen of another era. Can you be a good apprentice and join the Rabbit Guild?
Sunday 19 September at 11.30 am. RDV Place du Clocher in Saint-Emilion - Booking here >

Winegrower's walk
In the first part, a hike with a good walking pace but accessible to all! You will walk between the vines of the Grands Crus Classés and the old limestone walls, accompanied by your ultra-local guide.
More than a visit...a real moment of sharing...the objective is to understand the specificities of the appellation but also to answer all YOUR questions! Cork or plastic stopper? Organic or sustainable farming? Hand or machine harvesting... Then, an appointment with a local winemaker who will open the doors of his family property, handed down from generation to generation. Tour the barrel cellar to understand how wine ages, with a glass in hand! To make sure you have a good grasp of the subject, you will have a double tasting!
Sunday 19 September at 2.30 pm. Meeting point in front of the Maison du Vin de Saint-Emilion - Boooking here >

IN THE GREATER SAINT-EMILION AREA

  • Ecomusée du Libournais

Together let's live the heritage of the Libourne area

As part of the European Heritage Days 2021, the Ecomusée de Libournais offers quiz visits (indoor and outdoor) on the Libournais that reveal many secrets and anecdotes, a specific territory between confluence, valleys and hillsides, in the heart of the great vineyards of Saint-Emilion, Pomerol, Fronsac and others. A dive into the history of yesterday and today, through different sequences: underground heritage, social life, vine and wine, rivers, etc. A local heritage and a cultural diversity, to discover or rediscover.

  • Discovery on your own

Take advantage of the European Heritage Days weekend to (re)discover the 22 communes of the Greater Saint-Emilion area. You'll be charmed by the little-known architecture, unsuspected natural areas and unmissable historical sites!

You are free to explore the area according to your tastes and desires!

We invite you to (re)discover our beautiful Jurisdiction through a free treasure hunt that will take you through its 8 villages recognised by UNESCO.

You can start this treasure hunt at any stage; even if the starting point is set in Saint-Émilion.

You are free to choose your means of transportation (by car, by bike, on foot - for the very brave - or a bit of everything!) for this rally of 44 km in total (with a certain difference in altitude).

Download the treasure hunt (IN FRENCH) by clicking here >

The Greater Saint-Émilion Area has a very rich heritage, marked by the omnipresence of the vine and punctuated by historic buildings from different eras and architectures, forming the villages and hamlets characteristic of the area.

The Romanesque, Gothic and Monolithic churches dot the territory like landmarks for visitors strolling from the banks of the Dordogne to the limestone plateau. The preservation and development of this unique terroir and heritage make the Greater Saint-Émilion Area an exceptional area.
