Tuesday 15 July at 6.30pm:
Musical entertainment: Concert followed by a buffet with wine tasting from the estate
A concert featuring music salons, and in particular three from three different periods:
18th century: the Jacquins, in Viennes, a couple who regularly welcomed Mozart for Wednesday evenings, an opportunity for intellectuals to meet. Mozart composed nocturnes for their salon, vocal and instrumental pieces for a small ensemble, to be played in the evening for entertainment.
early 20th century: Madame de Saint Marceaux, in Paris, a music lover and musician herself, very close to Saint-Saëns, who is said to have asked her to marry him. On Fridays she entertained painters, writers and musicians. All the French composers (and not only!) of the first half of the 20th century passed through her salon: Debussy, Ravel, Fauré, Messager, Chabrier, Hahn, Albéniz, Chausson, Dukas, Poulenc, Roussel, etc.
mid-20th century: The Sitwell family, in England, including Edith Sitwell, the free-spirited poetess who wrote the texts for ‘Façade, an entertainment’, set to music by the composer Walton.
