From Clovis to Michel Rolland, over 1500 years of history.
In the midst of the conquest of the Roman Empire and following the victory at Vouillé in 507, a garrison of soldiers settled on the hill ‘Ad Francos’ and gave birth to the village of Francs before continuing their battles southwards.
The castle is mentioned for the first time in the history of the Francs, written by the Benedictine monk Aymon de Fleury. The stay of his disciple, the monk Saint-Abbon, at the castle recalls the presence of the original church of Saint-Martin. This story is the historical starting point for the castle.
From the 14th to the 18th century, the estate was successively destroyed and rebuilt, recalling the conflicts of the Hundred Years' War: the French against the English (following the second marriage of Aleonor of Aquitaine to Henry of Plantagenet) and the Wars of Religion between Catholics and Hughenots.
4 families succeeded one another and left their mark, visible today on the facades of the château: ‘Ségur’, ‘Isle de Lalande’, Gaufreteau and Hardouin de Chalon. This ensemble represents a unique architectural heritage spanning 4 centuries of history.
The 19th century was marked by the arrival of Michel Rolland's family. Always attentive to the terroirs, he worked with the technical team to produce three wines: Ad Francos white and Ad Francos red, as well as the Ad Aeternam reserve.
Today, the estate belongs to Jian Quiong Er and Guillaume Brochard. Pétra and Didier welcome you to the estate for tours, wine and food pairing lunches (2 people or more), seminars and self-catering holidays.
