2025 marks the 500th birthday of the Italian composer Giovanni Pierluigi da Palestrina (1525-1594)
An undisputed master of Renaissance polyphony and an emblematic figure of the Counter-Reformation, Palestrina is often associated with a pure and rigorous musical aesthetic, in perfect harmony with the principles of the Council of Trent, which imposed a more refined style and more intelligible polyphony. Considered by Romantic composers to be the father of Western religious music, Palestrina left a monumental body of work.
The concert will be held in the spellbinding setting of the spectacular monolithic church of Saint-Emilion.
